The Morgan Silver Dollar, designed by George T. Morgan, was minted from 1878 to 1904 and once again in 1921. This five-coin set contains examples struck at each of the five mints that Morgan Dollars were struck at and from each of the five decades that Morgan Dollars were issued. Early San Francisco examples of the Morgan Dollar such as 1879-S are known for their full, intricate strikes and lustrous surfaces, making them favorites among numismatists. As both the final year of issue and the only Morgan Dollar ever struck at the Denver Mint, the 1921-D is prized by collectors. 1921 stands out as a particularly interesting year for the Morgan Dollar due to its use of the micro-mintmark. The ''D'' micro-mintmark used on this issue is significantly smaller than mintmarks ever used on previous Morgan Dollars, making this a unique one-year-only variety. Due to the Pittman Act of 1918, nearly half of all Morgan Dollars ever struck were melted down, making Brilliant Uncirculated examples like these difficult to acquire. Out of all Morgan Dollars produced, it is estimated that only about 2% have survived in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
